Tar Heels vs Scarlet Knights Thursday night's lone game on the schedule features the North Carolina Tar Heels taking a trip up to Jersey to battle the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. Both teams match-up pretty evenly in terms of skill. Odds makers are calling the Scarlet Knights a 5 point favorite at home.
The early money has been on the Tar Heels in this one, it seems betters have not been impressed with the Scarlett Knights at home as the line opened at 5 1/2. Rutgers had major problems on defense against Fresno State a week ago, giving up over 200 yards on the ground and over 5 yards per carry.
On offense Rutgers did not look good in the running or passing game, although, on paper they are a still a decent offensive team. Greg Schiano's offense will have to show more consistency to have a chance to beat North Carolina.
Butch Davis's offense looked good as expected against McNeese State.
On defense, North Carolina will have to play much better than they did a week ago. The Tar Heel defense let up 27 points against a sub-par McNeese State team.
An interesting side bar to this nationally televised game on ESPN will be the reunion of Davis and Schiano. Greg Schiano served as Butch Davis's defensive coordinator at the University of Miami in 1999 and 2000.
Schiano told reports that when he was at Miami, he first began thinking about a head coaching career. "Butch helped me a lot. I asked a lot of questions, but he was really good about helping me understand a lot of things that assistant coached don't have to deal with."
Take the Tar Heels on the road getting the 5 points.
