Aaron Rodgers The Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay is offcially underway. Rodgers went 18-of-22 for 178 yards and a touchdown in a big victory over the Minnesota Vikings. The first quarterback other than Brett Favre to start a game for Green Bay since 1992 also added a 1-yard touchdown run in the win.
"I'm not expecting to fail, no sir, not at all," Rodgers said last week. "This is my fourth year in the league and my third year in coach McCarthy's offense. I know there will be bumps along the road, there always is for first year starters."
Rodgers looked good as he found his rhythm early with a seris of short passes in the first quarter. Later on he opened it up with a 56-yard bomb to Greg Jennings that set up a one yard touchdown toss to Kory Hall to give the Pack a 10-3
With Green Bay leading 17-6 early in the fourth quarter, Minnesota's quarterback Tavaris Jackson hooked up with Sidney Rice for a 23-yard touchdown pass to pull within 5. The Vikings 2-point try failed. Both defenses held, then with eight minutes left in the fourth, Ryan Grant broke a 57-yard run down to the Vikings two-yard line. Two plays later, the Packers took a 24-12 lead when Rodgers ran in a QB sneak and then headed for the stands for his first "Lambeau Leap".
With just under three minutes to go in the fourth, Adrian Peterson caped an 80 yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run to pull the Viking back within 5. The Vikings had one last chance to take the lead, but the Green Bay defense secured the 24-19 victory when Atari Bigby intercepted a Tavaris Jackson pass with just about a minute to go.
