Tennessee Volunteers Thursday night in Atlanta, the Tennessee Volunteers will be looking to keep the Virginia Tech Hokies from the getting their 10th win of the season in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. The Volunteers come in with a 7-5 overall record while the Hokies are 9-3.
Virginia Tech finished second in the ACC Coastal division to Georgia Tech. They make their third trip to Atlanta in 2009 after a season-opening 34-24 defeat to Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game and a 28-23 loss to the Yellow Jackets on October 17th.
NCAA odds makers are calling the Hokies the favorite coming into this one. The spread is sitting at about a touchdown with the line in Vegas at, Virginia Tech -6 with the total in the contest set at 49.
"This really is a dream matchup," said Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan. "To have the opportunity to host two nationally significant and traditional teams in Virginia Tech and Tennessee says a lot about
Tennessee has had an up and down year in 2009. Of-the-field issues with head coach Lane Kiffin have been somewhat of a distraction for the team, however the Vols finished the regular season strong by winning four of their final five games.
It has really been a tail of two half seasons for Volunteers quarterback Jonathon Crompton. The Vols signal caller has gotten a lot better as the season has progressed. Through Tennessee's first six games, Crompton tossed nine interception, but he cut that number down to just three in the team's final six.
Crompton passed for over 2,500 yards and 26 touchdowns this season, including a five TD, 331 yard proformance against Memphis on November 7th.
This should be a great match-up. I like Tennessee to pull of the upset in this one, or at the very least keep the game within the 6 points.
Take the Volunteers getting the points.
