When Minnesota heads to Soldier Field in Chicago to take on the Bears this Monday night, all eyes will be on Vikings quarterback Brett Favre to see whether, he and his teammates can bounce back from their second loss in three games and possibly clinch a postseason bye with a win.
Vikings coach Brad Childress and his signal caller will both agree Favre needs to avoid the sort of late-season swoon that plagued him last year. If he plays like he did the last time he met the Bears, that won't be an issue.
NFL odds makers are calling the Vikings a heavy road favorite against their NFC North division rival. The line in Vegas is sitting at, Minnesota -9 with the total in the game set at 42.
Last week at Carolina, Minnesota lost 26-7 in a game that will be best remembered for what Favre termed a "heated discussion" with Childress on the sideline. It started when the coach tried to pull his veteran quarterback in the third quarter with the Vikings clinging to a one-point lead.
"I think it's all resolved," Favre said. "I think the team as well as the coaching staff knows where I stand and what I stand for, as I do them. We're trying to do this thing together."
Favre led the Vikings to a 10-1 start by throwing 24 touchdowns and three interceptions, but the he now has had just three touchdowns and four picks in the three games since. This slide is reminiscent of how he played when the Jets fell apart last season.
Playing a Bears team in disarray could be exactly what Favre and the Vikings need to get back on track.
Back on November 29th, Favre and the Minnesota offense lit up the Bears for 36 points including 24 in the second quarter. They put up 537 total yards on offense and Favre three for three touchdowns.
Don't expect that again, instead look for a steady diet of running backs Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor.
Take the Vikings and give the points.
