Philadelphia Eagles The St Louis Rams travel to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia to take on the Eagles in the season opener. The Eagles have high expectations coming into the 2008 season. They ended last year with three straight wins behind a surging Donovan McNabb and one of the best NFL runners, in Brian Westbrook. The Rams finished last season 3-13, one of the worst in franchise history. The Eagles are 8 point favorites on opening weekend with the total at 44.
In 2007, nothing seemed to go right for head coach Scott Linehan and his Rams. Injuries were a huge part of last years debacle. Quarterback Marc Bulger and running back Steven Jackson each missed 4 games. Not to mention, Pro Bowl offensive tackle Orlando Pace suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in last years opener. With all of them healthy, the St Louis Rams hope to
"I think when you see the attitude, our ability to run and protect up front, there's a lot of positives you can draw from in what's going to be a really good offense," Linehan said.
However, this weekend the offense can only do so much. The Rams allowed 27.4 points per game last season, second worst in the league. St Louis will be counting on a lot of young players to play well to compete on defense. Combine that with an Eagles offense that appears to be running on all cylinders. True, the Eagles are thin at wide receiver, but McNabb is finally healthy and Brian Westbrook was last years leader in total yards from scrimmage and shows no signs of slowing any time soon.
The Rams may be able to put up some points, but their defense will not be able to stop Westbrook. Take the Eagles at home and give the 8 points.
