Sunday night in the Meadowlands, the NFC East division race heats up when the 7-5 New York Giants host the 8-4 Philadelphia Eagles in a huge match-up with major playoff implications.
The last time the Eagles visited the Giants it was in last season's playoffs in the divisional round when Philadelphia ended New York's bid to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.
NFL odds makers have this one as a very close one. The line in Vegas is sitting at, Philadelphia -1 with the total set at 43. Even on the road against a tough division rival, prognosticators are calling the Eagles slight favorites.
Including postseason, Philadelphia has won three straight over New York. The Eagles won 40-17 at home back on November 1st, and prevailed at Giants Stadium twice last season including that 23-11 victory in the playoffs.
If the Eagles can extend their streak against the Giants, they will move two game ahead of New York with three game to play. However, if the Giants can come up with a win at home, their will be three-way tie for first place in the division, as the Dallas Cowboys fell to 8-5 with a loss to the San Diego Chargers earlier in the day.
The Eagles will be without running back Brian Westbrook for the sixth time in seven games after suffering a concussion earlier in the year. Rookie LeSean McCoy and fullback Leonard Weaver have done extremely well filling in for their Pro-Bowl tailback.
The Giants are coming off a big win against the Cowboys last week, they were able to beat Dallas at home in a very good game for New York. Quarterback Eli Manning was able to throw for over 200 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
This week is a tough game to call. As a whole, I think that the Eagles are playing much better football right now. The Giants have just been too inconsistent.
Take the Eagles on the road.
