Week one showcases these two AFC South rivals each trying to close the gap between themselves and the Division Champion Colts. There is no secret as to each of these teams offensive game plans. They will each be looking to control the clock, establish the run early, and seize the tempo of the game. Jacksonville is a 3 point favorite on the road with the total being set at 36 1/2.
Last season the Jaguars were second in the league in rushing with the tandem of Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor. There running game, along with QB David Garrard's seemingly mistake free 2007 season propelled Jacksonville to an 11-5 record and a playoff win against Pittsburgh in the Wild Card round. Garrard threw 18 touchdowns to only 3 interceptions while compiling a QB rating of 102.2, third in the
league behind only Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger.
The Titans, the AFC's other Wild Card team in 2007 finished 10-6 but were quickly dispatched by the San Diego Chargers in the opening round look to build on their success in 2008 as they return 18 of 22 starter and both sides of the ball. The Titans were 5th in the league in rushing in '07 with RB LenDale White and QB Vince Young leading the way. Tennessee needs QB Vince Young to develop more consistency in the passing game. He needs to become more of a passer and not just a great athlete. Young has been a work in progress since he entered the league.
These two teams play a similar style. The major differences are that Jacksonville has a better defense than Tennessee and David Garrard is a much better quarterback than Vince Young.
Take the Jags and give the 3 points.
