Matt Ryan The Atlanta Falcons will be without quarterback Matt Ryan as they try to improve their playoff hopes in a key NFC game against Philadelphia this week.
Chris Redman will make the start in Ryan's place. Falcons Coach Mike Smith said Monday that Ryan will miss at least one game with a turf toe injury.
In relief of Ryan on Sunday against the Buccaneers, Redman was 23-of-41 for 243 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while leading Atlanta to a 20-17 victory.
Before the win over the Bucs, Redman had not attempted a pass since his last start in the final game of the 2007 season when he threw for four touchdowns with no interceptions in the Falcons' 44-41
"It was good to get back out there and get back into the game and get a feel for it," said Redman.
This weekend, the Falcons got pretty banded up. Aside from Ryan, running back Micheal Turner aggravated his right ankle sprain in his return after missing one game. They also lost offensive linemen Harvey Dahl with an injured right ankle and Achilles tendon and Sam Baker hurt his left elbow.
As well as Redman played on Sunday, the Falcons will miss Ryan and the 2,291 yards with 16 touchdowns that he has piled up so far this season. He has completed 59.4 percent of his passes, just a slight drop-off from his 61.1 percentage last year when he won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
