Georgia Tech can earn its first trip to a BCS bowl with a victory in the ACC championship game. However, before they face-off against Clemson for the conference title, their oldest rival, Georgia looks to knock Tech down a peg and earn bragging rights in the Peace State.
At 10-1, the Jackets clinched the Coastal Division with a 49-10 win at Duke on Nov. 14. This week, Georgia Tech looks for their 11th win over a Bulldogs team that has struggled to a 6-5 record.
NCAA odds makers are calling the Yellow Jackets more than a touchdown home favorite in this one. The spread in Vegas is sitting at, Georgia Tech -7.5 with the total set at 57.
This rivalry game, dubbed "Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate," has been played 103 times according to Georgia Tech and only 101 times according to Georgia record books. Georgia discredits two games in 1943 and 1944 because many of their players went to fight in World War II.
Georgia leads the series 59-39-5.
Last season, Georgia Tech ran over the Bulldogs for 409 yards in a 45-42 victory, but Yellow Jackets coach Paul Johnson has tried to down-play the importance of the rivalry.
"I understand it's a big game," said Johnson. "I'm not backing away from that, but what I'm trying to say is, it's not going to end our season if we win or lose the game. I'm not going to let one game define my football season when I have to play 13 games."
History may be on Georgia's side, but that's about it. Tech should run all over the Bulldogs against this season.
Take the Yellow Jackets and give the 7 points.
