If the University of Notre Dame decides that 2009 will be the last for head coach Charlie Weis, who do the Fighting Irish want to be the future of their football program.

Notre Dame lost its third straight game to go to 6-5 on Saturday with a 33-30 loss in double overtime to Connecticut on senior day in South Bend.

Even Weis himself, says he won't blame the University if they gave him the axe.

"If they decide to make a change, I'd have to say I'd have a tough time arguing with that," Weis said. "If they decide to make a change, I'd have a tough time arguing that because 6-5 is not good enough. Especially when you've lost five games by a touchdown or less and several three-point games that went right down to the wire."

So, if Weis is on his way out, could the Irish get the coach of the No. 1 ranked Florida Gators to patrol the side line in South Bend next year.

With rumors swirling about Weis' possible replacement candidates, the name Urban Meyer has come up. Meyer is a devout Roman Catholic and, on several occasions, has referred to the head coaching job at Notre Dame as his dream job.

Meyer, who spent five seasons as an assistant at Notre Dame early in his career, addressed those rumors in an emotional news conference on Monday when he said that he would be in Gainesville for "as long as they'll have me."

He indicated that he had no intention of being the coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
