Giants vs Redskins
Giants vs Redskins
Well it's finally here. The seven month wait is over and the 2008 NFL season is about to begin. The defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants host divisional rival Washington Redskins in the 7th annual NFL Kickoff Game. Odds makers are calling the Giants a 4 1/2 point favorite and the over at 41.

The Giants will look to spread the ball around the field in the passing game on offense. Eli Manning will look to expand the vertical passing game with his talented group of receivers including Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer and Steve Smith. Now that Jeremy Shockey has moved on to New Orleans, tight end Kevin Boss looks to continue his terrific play and give Manning another option underneath as well as provide blocking support in the running game.

Running back Brandon Jacobs will look to wear down the Redskins defense with his power rushing style. In 2007
Jacobs rushed for over 1000 yards and 4 touchdowns while averaging 5.0 yards per carry. Jacobs also hauled in 23 receptions for almost 200 yards and 2 more touchdowns.

The Redskins and rookie head coach Jim Zorn will look to there new offense to put them over the hump, taking them from a playoff team to legitament Super Bowl contender. QB Jason Campbell is still learning his new offense, it's a work in progress. If the Redskins get it together, RB Cliton Portis, WR Santana Moss and TE Chris Cooley should thrive.

"That's the history of this offense," Zorn said after the Redskins preseason lose to Jacksonville 24-3. "Basically, the passing game has been behind the run game, the defense and special teams. As it comes on, then you start hitting on all cylinders."

It's not that the Redskins won't be ready to play Thursday, but look for the Giants to be better on offense. Take the G-men and give the 4 1/2.
