Boller Out Flacco In
The Baltimore Ravens place QB Kyle Boller on injured reserve, officially ending his season and in essence ending his career with the Ravens. Boller is in the last final season of six year contract with the Ravens. The Ravens won't re-sign him.

Since being picked 19th overall in the 2003 draft Boller has not lived up to the Ravens expectations. He has thrown for 45 touchdowns while also throwing 44 interceptions over his six seasons in the league. The Ravens have lost more then half of his starts.

Boller suffered his season-ending injury in the Ravens second preseason game on August 16th. Baltimore announced earlier in the week that rookie Joe Flacco would start the teams season opener Sunday at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens knew Flacco would start at some point, maybe later on in mid-season or even next year, just not September
7th against the Bengals.

"First, let me say I think Joe Flacco has every opportunity to be a good, maybe even great, NFL quarterback," said Mike Harbaugh about his new starter.

Maybe Flacco will be able to weather the storm and succeed, but the point is, the Ravens had hoped not to have to take that chance. Raven coaches liked what they saw in Flacco's preseason appearances saying that Flacco's show the ability to mature quickly, even within the course of a game. He will surely have to mature quickly this week. The Bengals will not be inserting scrubs in the second half, this week is for keeps.

Reports out of Ravens camp say that they have signed veteran QB Todd Bouman to back-up Flacco. Bouman has thrown 11 career NFL touchdowns. Bouman signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 1997 and has also played for the Saints, Packers, Jaguars and Rams in his 11 seasons.
