Larry Johnson According to league sources, former Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson has signed a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday morning.
Although Johnson was told that would be fourth on the team's depth cart, he was eager to sign with a team and have the opportunity to play again in 2009.
Johnson was released by Kansas City last Monday one day after he was due back from his second (two-week) suspension in the past 12 months. His last brush with controversy came two weeks ago when he posted on his Twitter account a gay slur, insulted followers and questioned the competence of head coach Todd Haley.
Bengals starter Cedric Benson, who strained a hip muscle in Sunday's win in Pittsburgh
"It would have zero affect on Cedric Benson, Bernard Scott or Brian Leonard," Lewis said. "I'm very happy right now with what they're doing and their roles and I want to see Bernard's role continue to expand as it did yesterday."
The detail of the signing have not been announced, however, because NFL veteran contracts are guaranteed at the start of the regular season, Johnson is still going to make a little more than $4 million.
It is going to be very interesting to see what Johnson can do with the Bengals offensive line in front of him. Many experts believe that Johnson's best day are behind him.
