Former No.1 draft pick Larry Johnson's career in Kansas City is over.

According to reports, the Chiefs informed him that the team had run out of patience with Johnson's off-the-field problems and he was to be released the day he was suppose to come back from his second suspension in a year.

Johnson, who turns 30 on Nov. 19, was not surprised with his now-former team's season.

"A part of him is excited and a part of him is very regretful," said Johnson's agent Peter Schaffer. "There's a lot of feelings going on right now. It's analogous to breaking up with a girlfriend. Maybe you saw it coming, but it still hurts when it happens."

It seems like Johnson has always been surrounded by controversy and it started
on draft-day, 2003. Johnson was reportedly not happy when he was taken by the Chiefs. Apparently, he wanted to be drafted by the Steelers and his displeasure showed.

He even prompted then-coach Dick Vermeil to say it was time for him "to take the diapers off."

His latest brush with controversy came two weeks ago when he posted a guy slur on his Twitter account and then went on to question the competence of head coach Todd Haley.

In 2008, then-coach Herm Edwards benched him for three straight games for violating team rules and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him a fourth game for violating the league's player conduct policy.

So what is next for Larry Johnson? He will catch-on with some team desperate for a running game, but his best days are behind him.
