This week's addition of Monday Night Football features the 6-1 Denver Broncos and the 5-2 Pittsburgh Steelers in Invesco Field at Mile High.
The Steelers may not have gotten off to a great start in 2009, but the defending champs are now definitely playing at a championship level as they look to win their fifth straight against a Broncos team that will be trying to bounce back from their first defeat of the year.
NFL odds makers are calling Pittsburgh road favorites in what should prove to be an excellent AFC conference match-up. The Vegas line is sitting at, the Steelers -2.5 with the total set at 41.
Since opening the season 1-2, the Steelers have gone undefeated to give themselves a legitimate shot to win a third straight AFC North title. After Sunday's Bengals win against the Ravens, the Steelers need a win in Denver to keep pace in the North, although Cincinnati currently owns the tiebreaker by virtue of a home win over Pittsburgh in Week 3.
The Broncos suffered the first loss of the season last week in 30-7 loss to the Ravens. Kyle Orton passed for 152 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions for Denver, while Knowshon Moreno rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
The Broncos' defense is looking to rebound from its worst effort of the season. Denver ranks third in the NFL in rushing defense at 86.1 yards per game, but surrendered a season-high 125 to the Ravens. However, that might bode well against the Steelers have truly evolved into a passing team.
Coming into Week 9, Ben Roethlisberger was third in the NFL with 2,062 passing yards. He has thrown 11 touchdowns to just 5 interceptions.
Look for the addition of Ty Law in the Denver secondary to help the Broncos to defend the pass, but it won't be enough to beat the Steelers. Take Pittsburgh and give the 2.5 points.
