Florida State Seminoles head coach Bobby Bowden said Wednesday that he will be making the final decision on the Noles' next defensive coordinator, however he also said that head coach-in-waiting Jimbo Fisher will be very involved with the decision.
"I think he definitely has to have a say-so, because he's the future here," Bowden said of Fisher. "It's one of those things I'll make the final decision on, but I'll definitely get his input, and very strongly."
Earlier this week, current defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews announced that he intends to retire at the end of the 2009 season. Andrew has spent 26 years with the Seminoles and has been coaching for 47 years total.
After the worst start to the ACC season during Bowden's tenure as head coach at FSU, it is unclear whether he will return for the 2010 season. Despite Bowden's statement that he will hire the next defensive coordinator, there are still plenty of questions remaining about the program's future.
Even though they have had a disappointing season thus far, the Seminoles are sitting at 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the ACC and still have an outside shot at winning the conference.
The Seminoles could keep their ACC title game hopes alive with a win Saturday at Clemson.
Bowden has been under pressure from influential booster members and university trustees to retire after this season. However, he has not made a decision on his future.
The university will owe Fisher $5 million if he is not named head coach by January 2011.
