The Texas Longhorns took a small step forward in this week's Bowl Championship Series standings, and the remaining unbeaten teams held down the first seven spots.
The Longhorns jumped one spot from third place to second, moving ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide, but they remain one behind the Florida Gators. The move is merely cosmetic as Texas, Florida and Alabama are already in control of their own destiny in the BCS championship race.
If the Longhorns stay unbeaten, they will surely earn a spot to play for the BCS championship in January. The Gators and the Tide will most likely be heading to an SEC Title game that would send the winner to play Texas.
Heading down the list, the Iowa Hawkeyes, at 9-0, are in the 4th spot after struggling a bit against Indiana on Saturday. Cincinnati, TCU and the Boise State Broncos are 5, 6 and 7 in standings and are all undefeated.
The biggest news of this past weekend would have to be the Oregon Ducks and their rout of the USC Trojans. The Ducks thrashed the Trojans by 27 points and have now won seven game in a row since their week one loss to Boise State. In the 8th position, the Ducks are the are the highest of the one-loss teams in the BCS standings.
The LSU Tigers and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets round out the top 10.
Penn State is in the 11th spot and USC fell to 12th after their loss at Oregon. Dave Wannstedt's Pitt Panthers are No. 13 with a record of 7-1 and the Utah Utes and Houston Cougars are 14 and 15th on the list.
Notre Dame is currently 22nd. They need at least nine wins and a top-14 finish in the BCS standings to be eligible for an at-large bid.
