Friday night, the Rutgers Scarlett Knights head to West Point to take on the Army Black Knights in front of a national television audience on ESPN2.
This intriguing match-up features two teams looking to get back on track after losses disappointed each team last week. At 4-2, Rutgers had a four game winning streak snapped last Friday night against Big East Rival Pittsburgh, while the Black Knights lost their fourth game of the season at Temple.
NCAA odds makers are calling the Scarlet Knights heavy road favorites in this one as the Vegas line sits at, Rutgers -10.5 with the total in the game at 38.5.
Last time out, the Pittsburgh rushing attack ran roughshod all over the Rutgers defense, racking up 223 yards on the ground at 4.8 yards per carry. The Scarlet Knights offense wasn't able to do much the Panthers defense either, amassing just 286 yards of total offense.
True freshman quarterback Tim Savage and senior receiver Tim Brown accounted for almost all of the Rutgers offense. Savage completed 23 of his 39 passes for 248 yards and a touchdown, while Brown hauled in seven passes for 96 yards and one score.
Defensively Army has been good enough to win more ball games than their 3-4 record. They have limited opponents to 285 yards per game. What's more impressive is that they have generated 14 turnovers with 9 interceptions. That will be key in their match-up against a true freshman this week.
Rutgers is definitely the better team, but will they cover? I think they should be able to rebound from the Pittsburgh game quit nicely against the Black Knights.
Take Rutgers and give the 10.5 points on the road.
