Friday night under the lights in Piscataway, New Jersey, the 4-1 Scarlet Knights host the 5-1 Pittsburgh Panthers at Rutgers Stadium in a Big East battle airing on ESPN.
The Knights will be looking to extended Rutgers' winning streak over the Panthers to four straight games as Pitt comes into the game with plenty of momentum of their own after rallying to beat Connecticut last Saturday.
NCAA odds makers are calling Rutgers a home dog as the Vegas line is sitting at, Pittsburgh -3.5 with the total in the game set at 46.5.
In last season's match-up between these two, Pitt quarterback Bill Stull was in the midst of the best game of his career when a freak third-quarter collision with running back LeSean McCoy's heel left him motionless on the Heinz Field turf. Stull, suffering from a concussion, left the field on a stretcher and spent the night in the hospital undergoing tests.
The only thing he remembers about that night is that Rutgers won the game. Stull feels like this game against the Scarlet Knights is personal, but not because of his injury, it's because of Rutgers recent success against Pitt.
"We see this game as a personal game," said Stull. "This game is personal because we only have one player on this whole team and on the coaching staff that has beaten Rutgers and that's Adam Gunn, a sixth-year guy."
Put the history aside in this one, Pittsburgh should be the better team on Friday night. Although both teams have only one loss, Rutgers only formidable foe thus far has been Cincinnati, which they lost to by 32 points. The Panthers have won some good games including an impressive, come-from-behind victory against Connecticut last Saturday.
Look for Pitt to keep on rolling. Take the Panthers and give the 3.5 point on the road.
