According to a source close to New Mexico coach Mike Locksley, the Lobos first year head man will be suspended for his team's October 24 game against UNLV.

Apparently, Locksley is being suspended after the university conducted an internal investigation into allegations that he struck his former wide receivers coach, J.B. Gerald, during a heated coaches meeting on September 20th.

The source said that Locksley will be suspended without pay for eight working days and will not be allowed any contact with the team during that period.

ESPN reported that the suspension does not have anything to do with legal claims made to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission by a former football administrative assistant. On
Monday, the school announced that Locksley has been resolved "all legal claims" in that issue.

Gerald hasn't been with the Lobos since the dispute, which occurred a day after a loss to Air Force. Gerald has turned in his keys and university-issued cell phone, but remains on paid administrative leave.

The university said that after the fight, athletic director Paul Krebs issued verbal and written reprimands to Locksley. A day later, university administrators decided to investigate whether Locksley's actions violated policies against campus violence.

An official announcement is expected to be made about the issue in a 5 p.m. ET news conference.

Lobos assistant head coach George Barlow is expected to serve as the team's interim coach during Locksley's absence.
