The North Carolina State Wolfpack opens their season in Columbia against former ACC rival, the South Carolina Gamecocks. Steve Spurrier's Gamecocks are under a lot of pressure to produce this season after last years collapse. Tom O'Brien's Wolfpack head into 2008 with much uncertainty, as they have Red-shirt Freshmen QB Russell Wilson leading the offense.

Odds makers are calling South Carolina a 14 point favorite at home against the Wolfpack, with the over sitting at 45.

South Carolina started strong in 2007, collecting 6 wins in their first 7 games. However, 'The Old Ball Coach's' Gamecocks fell apart down the stretch, losing all five of
their remaining games. Finishing 6-6, they did not qualify for a bowl. They look for more consistency in 2008. Spurrier commented, "(We're) not not trying to talk too big, and hopefully, our play will do whatever talking needs to be said."

With their leading rusher, Jamelle Eugene out with an ankle injury and a QB that has never taken a college snap NC State is not expected to do much on offense. Picked to finish last in the ACC, Tom O'Brien's Wolfpack really has nothing to lose in their opener. That could make them even more dangerous.

With South Carolina under as much pressure as they are this season to win and NC State under almost no pressure, tonight's game may be more interesting than one would think.
