According to reports coming out of Southern California, freshman quarterback Matt Barkley participated in the 3rd ranked Trojans' light practice Monday, but didn't do any throwing drills while resting his sore shoulder.

Barkley was injured during the second half of USC's 18-15 victory at Ohio State. He stayed in the game and led USC's game-winning scoring drive in the final seven minutes, completing 15 of 31 passes for 195 yards with an interception.

Trojans coach Pet Carroll did not want to give any kind of a timeline to Barkley's injury, only saying that Barkley was considered day-to-day.

"They think he's going to be OK by the end of the week," Carroll said.

However, when the coach was asked if his true freshmen signal caller would play if he was unable to practice all week he said, "No, not necessarily. I don't know. I would think not, but we'll find out."

In Barkley's stead, Aaron Corp looked good running with the first team offense. Corp had his first snaps with the first-team offense since suffering a cracked fibula on the third day of training camp. Corp was the projected starter for the Trojans, but the injury opened the door for Barkley to take over and win the starting job.

"He looks really good," Carroll said. "He looks full speed to me and I haven't felt that in other weeks."

USC did get some good new amidst all the uncertainty. Running back Joe McKnight was selected as the Pacific 10 Conference offensive player of the week. McKnight rushed for 60 yards on 16 carries, including 32 yards on the Trojans game winning drive. He also caught the two-point conversion pass to cap the drive.
