The Raiders acquired Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour in a trade Sunday that would see the 29 year old head to Oakland in exchange for a 2011 first-round draft pick.

Problem is, the five-time Pro Bowler has failed to make it to Oakland in time for a Monday's practice, fueling speculation that he has no intention of playing for the Raiders.

Raiders head coach Tom Cable said after practice that Seymour had to resolve some things with the Patriots before the deal could be finalized.

"We have attempted to make a deal," Cable said. "There are some issues still between him and the Patriots that are being worked out. I'm hoping that that will get resolved as quickly as possible. We know that the player wants to be here, but we have really no control over those issues."

Cable
may be dancing around a bigger issue. A spokesman for the Patriots said that they were unaware of any unresolved business between the Patriots and Seymour, while a person close to Seymour said that the five-time Pro Bowler was caught off guard by the news he had been traded to the Raiders and needed time to sort out his emotions.

Seymour turns 30 next month and is in the final year of a contract that is set to pay him about $3.7 million this season. The trade would send him from a team that has gone 77-19 the past six seasons and is a perennial Super Bowl contender to a Raiders team that is an NFL-worst 24-72 over that span.

The Raiders are hopeful the situation will be resolved in a way that will work out well for everyone, with Seymour in Oakland in time to practice and play in the regular-season opener Monday against the San Diego Chargers.
