It's not like a regular season game between the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants needs any more hype. But, it sure got another story line leading up to this week's opening game match-up between these NFC East rivals.

Apparently, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin didn't like when the Redskins signed his former quarterback Andre Woodson to their practice squad after he we cut from New York.

Coughlin insinuated that Woodson was only signed for this week to help the Skins get an edge over the Giants for this Sunday's game.

"You mean, 'Why is he in Washington right now?' " the coach said with a laugh. "It's pretty obvious why he's in Washington. There's no question that's what's going on. We'll see what transpires. It works both ways a little bit."

The
Redskins have insisted that he was not signed as just a tool to be used this week. Redskins coach Jim Zorn said that Washington scouted Woodson coming out of college and decided to take a chance on him after the Giants let him go.

"Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's something that I would be frustrated with, too." Zorn said. "He might be able to help us a little bit. He knows their stuff. I do understand that, that it makes it look like we're jumping on that, but that wasn't the major issue with the find."

When Coughlin was asked if he had ever done anything like what he was insinuating, he said.

"I've been a part of it. The guy doesn't get in the door two seconds and he's in a classroom getting grilled. But not of late."

During a press conference, Coughlin joked that everything he and the other coaches taught Woodson was a decoy.
