Looking to get off to a good start in Seattle against the Washington Huskies, LSU is coming off a disappointing 2008 season that saw the Tigers fall to 8-5 after a BCS Title in 2007.
With a preseason number 11 ranking, the Tigers and coach Les Miles hope that they are due for a bounce-back year. Opening against a Washington team that has lost 14 straight games dating back to 2007 may be exactly what they need.
NCAA odds makers like their chances as they are calling the Tigers heavy road favorites against the Huskies. LSU is sitting at -17.5 with the total in the game at 53.
Jarrett Lee took most of the snaps last season and threw more interceptions than touchdowns. Jordan Jefferson took over late and allowed LSU to regain its dominant form in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, as LSU beat Georgia Tech 38-3.
This season, Jefferson seems poised to lead what could shape-up to be a very exciting LSU offense. The excitement doesn't end with the starting quarterback. The Tigers are extremely high on freshmen Russell Shepard, technically the backup quarterback, will take some of Jefferson's snaps as LSU employs a wildcat formation at times. He could also appear in other spots on offense.
"We'll play him at quarterback. We'll play him at wide receiver and possibly running back," Miles said. "What he does with his feet certainly makes him special. He has great ball skills. He can catch it. He can throw it. We give him a limited menu with throws, but he'll have the opportunity to do those things."
The Huskies look to turn themselves around as new head coach Steve Sarkisian makes his Huskies debut tonight after serving as the offensive coordinator for Pete Carroll at USC. Sarkisian looks to make some extreme changes this season.
Look for the losing streak to head to 15 game after tonight. The only question is if LSU can cover the 17.5 points. I think they will in a walk.
Take LSU and give the points.
