Roll Tide A year ago in the Georgia Dome against Clemson, the Alabama began a string of twelve straight victories that thrust the Crimson Tide into the National Championship picture, before they lost to the Florida Gators in the SEC Championship.
The Tide is back again, this time the 7th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies head south the take on Alabama in the neutral site.
NCAA odds makers are calling the 5th ranked Crimson Tide about a touchdown favorite against the Hokies. Alabama is at -6.5 and the total in the contest is sitting at 37.
On the offensive side of the ball Alabama most talented play-makers has to be sophomore wide-out Julio Jones. As a freshmen, Jones caught 54 passes for over 900 yards and 4 touchdowns. However, the Tide will be depending on their defense.
The Crimson Tide defense was third in the nation overall, letting up only about 260 yards per game,
Alabama returns eight starters including All-Americans, tackle Terrence Cody and linebacker Rolando McClain. Cornerback Javier Arenas will be anchoring the secondary.
Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer is excited about the opening game match-up against the Crimson Tide. He sees this game as having a tremendous upside.
"A win over a great program as good as Alabama would definitely be a big thing for Virginia Tech and the ACC," he said. "The other side of it, it doesn't make your season either way. If you beat Alabama you still have games to play, and if you lose to Alabama you still have games to play."
This game is going to be a great game to watch. Both teams are know for their tough, hard-noised style of play, however, the Crimson Tide will prove to be too much for the Hokies to handle.
