A couple of seasons ago, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said that his Cowboys were not ready for the big time after a big opening day loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Heading into their 2009 opener, the 9th-ranked Cowboys will see how much progress they have made as they host number 13 Georgia Bulldogs in Stillwater.

NCAA odds makers like their chances. Prognosticators have Oklahoma State as 5 point home favorites at Boone Pickens Stadium. The total in the game is sitting at 57.5.

At nine, Oklahoma State comes into this season with their highest preseason ranking in school history. Gundy said it's time his team begins living up to those lofty expectations.

A year ago, the Georgia Bulldogs opened the season with their first number 1 ranking in school history. But the Bulldogs were beaten by Alabama in late September and split six games against ranked teams, they ended up with a 10-3 season.

Even though they find themselves in the Top 25, Georgia and coach Mark Richt could be looking at 2009 as a rebuilding year after losing quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno to the NFL.

Senior Joe Cox will be under center for the Bulldogs this year. Cox made his only start as a freshmen in 2006, he lead Georgia to a 14-9 victory over Mississippi.

Under coach Richt, Georgia is 34-3 against teams outside the SEC. I think we will once again see how good that conference is as the 2009 season takes shape. The Bulldogs will surprise some people this season.
