Saturday, the 2009 college football season gets rolling as the Ohio State Buckeyes host the Navy Midshipmen in Columbus. For the Buckeyes this season, multi-talented quarterback, Terrelle Pryor, looks to lead Ohio State back toward a national title.
Last season, the Buckeyes had Chris Wells in the backfield and the nation's seventh-ranked scoring defense so they didn't have to lean on Pryor. This year he really has a chance to show the nation why he was the nation's top recruit a few years back.
NCAA odds makers are calling the Buckeyes heavy favorites at home against Navy. The line is -22.5 with the total in the game sitting at 46.
Pryor has often been compared with Vince Young, however, Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel prefers Pryor to progress more like Ohio State's 2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith.
"He'll evolve every year from that standpoint, not unlike Troy," Tressel said. "Troy's first year, he was a 600-700-yard rusher. Then he was a 500, and his last year around 175. Terrelle has a lot more experience than Troy had at the outset, so I'd like to think he'll grow into that mold."
Navy's leading rushers Shun White and Eric Kettani are gone and so to is quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada, leaving the offense in the hands of Ricky Dobbs. The junior came to the Midshipmen as one of the service academy's most highly touted quarterbacks in recent history.
Dobbs is a talented runner with a very strong arm and he hopes to show it of this season. He might just get a chance to do so on Saturday as many think that the Buckeyes should lead this one throughout.
However, this is an interesting, team for Ohio State to open with. The Midshipmen offensive line's cut blocking style has been known to give defenses fits.
Ohio State has not lost a home opener since 1978, but Navy may just be able to slow this game down enough to keep it relatively close.
Take Navy getting the 22.5 points.
