While Terrell Owens has been hobbling around on a sore toe, the Bills offense has been the one needing a crutch as limp through the NFL preseason.

According to reports, Owens returned to practice on Monday after missing three weeks with a sprained toe and declared he'll be ready to play in two weeks for the regular-season opener against New England.

Bills coach Dick Jauron said there's "not a good chance" Owens will play Thursday. And Owens agreed.

"We're going to be smart about it," Owens said. "We've got the big opener to the season against the Patriots, so that's where my focus is right now."

Although the Bills practice was closed to the media, Owens he took part in all individual and
team drills, and said his toe felt fine. The Bills receiver blames the injury on a new type of shoe he was wearing that was causing discomfort and not on anything that happened in the Hall of Fame Game he played in on August 9th.

So far, Buffalo is 1-3 and coming off their worst offensive performance of the preseason Saturday night against the Steelers. The Bills were shutout. They had just 135 total yards on offense.

"Obviously, we're not going in the direction we want to go right now. But there's no reason why we can't go in the direction we want," said quarterback Trent Edwards. "We have the pieces here, and that's the bottom line. That's why I'm still confident."

The return of Terrell Owens could be just the jump-start the Buffalo Bills offense needs.
