As far as preseason games go, the league has seen some big ones on the schedule this week. None bigger than Jay Cutler's return to Denver as the quarterback of the Chicago Bears.
Cutler had a tumultuous offseason forcing himself out of a Broncos uniform. The 26 year old signal caller has since been quoted as saying that he had great memories of his time with the Broncos, but it is unlikely anyone will here him waxing poetically about his Denver days this weekend.
NFL odds makers are apparently not buying into any thoughts of Cutler's play being elevated because of the added motivation of playing against his former team. They are calling the Broncos the favorite in this one. Denver is listed at -2.5 with the total in the game sitting at 38.
The most obvious edge in this one is the Chicago defense against the Broncos offense. The Bears defense may be one of the deepest in the league. They will certainly be putting the heat on Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton.
After struggling in their preseason opener, the Bears offense looked pretty solid their second game. Cutler had all his weapons in the lineup, including the versatile Matt Forte at tailback, and looked much more comfortable.
Cutler has been trying to down play the hype that surrounds this game on Sunday night.
"It's a pre-season game," said Cutler. "We've got to keep that in perspective."
Obviously, neither team will play its starters for the entire game, but this game should be one of the most intense we have seen so far this preseason. The Bears defense will be swarming and Cutler will be slinging.
Take the Bears getting the 2.5 points.
