Rookie Of The Year Jarod Mayo, 2008 Defensive Rookie of the Year, hopes to spend his off the field time watching Pro Bowl quarterback Tom Brady move the offense in 2009. That is something he was unable to do last season after Brady missed 15 games with a knee injury.
Not many of this years class of rookies will have the luxury of having such a potent offense to lean on.
NFL odds makers have released the odds for the 2009 Defensive Rookie of the Year and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite. Vegas is calling Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's award.
Curry was taken by the Hawks with the fourth overall pick in April's draft. Curry is expected to have a major role in Seattle's defense this
A linebacker has won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award six straight times and eight out of the last nine years.
Following Curry on the list of potential hopefuls is Tyson Jackson, the third overall pick in April from the Chiefs is at 7/1, James Laurinaitas of the Rams at 8/1, Brian Orakpo from the Redskins is at 10/1, and former USC linebacker Rey Maualuga from Cincinnati is at 10/1.
Another couple of players worth watching could be Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews and San Diego Chargers defensive end Larry English. Matthews' odds are sitting at 12/1 and English's odds are at 15/1.
Both of these men are expected to be starters and have an impact on the teams.
