New York Giants As the New York Giants look ahead to the 2009 NFL regular season, they will be trying to get back to the magic they had in 2007. New York is just barely a year and a half removed that championship and will certainly have a chance at another.
Odds makers are calling the Giants about a 10/1 favorite to win the Super Bowl this year, while NFL betting lines have them a virtual lock to win the NFC East at less than 2/1.
New York had an extremely productive off-season first by signing running back Brandon Jacobs to a new deal and then adding free agents Chris Canty, Michael Boley, C.C. Brown and Rocky Bernard to a defense that was already considered one of the league's best. They did recently suffer a set-back when Boley underwent arthroscopic surgery earlier this week to repair a torn labrum in his hip.
Boley is expected to miss 8 to 10 weeks and his status for the season opener in September is unclear, however, the outlook for their defense
On the other side of the ball, their offense will of course be anchored by quarterback Eli Manning and running back Brandon Jacobs. The loss of wide receiver Plaxico Burress will hurt in the down the field passing game, but the G-Men enter training camp with Amani Toomer, Domenik Hixon and third-year pro Steve Smith out wide.
As well as the Giants look coming in, they do play in what many experts believe to be the toughest division in football, the NFC East.
There is a lot of uncertainty with what we will see out of the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys this year. If the Cowboys can score, they will be very dangerous in 2009. In Philadelphia, when Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook are healthy, that offense will really put up some points.
In Washington, they should not contend for the NFC East title, but the Redskins are always a team to watch out for in the division.
As far as talent goes, New York should win the East. It's a long season, anything could happen.
