Kansas City Chiefs To Retire Derrick Thomas' No. 58

Derrick Thomas The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that they will be retiring number 58. The number of the late Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas will be risen onto Arrowhead Stadium's Ring of Honor during a ceremony on December 6th.
Thomas played his entire 11-year career for the Chiefs after being drafted 4th overall in the 1989 NFL Draft. On February 8, 2000, Thomas died from a massive blood clot that developed as a result complications due to severe injuries he sustained in a car accident weeks earlier.
Thomas will be part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2009.
During his 11 seasons in the league, Thomas recorded 126.5 sacks, 11th all-time. He still holds the NFL record for the most sacks
On the field Thomas may has been ferocious, but off of the grid iron he was considered one of the league's "good guys". Thomas won the Walter Peyton award in 1993. The award given to the league's Man of the Year. He helped establish the "Third and Long Foundation" to help children in desperate situations like delinquency, drugs, violence and crime.
He is one of only 22 NFL players to achieve 100 or more sacks, and ranks fifth all-time in Chiefs' history with 649 career tackles. During his career, he also recorded 1 interception and recovered 19 fumbles, returning them for 161 yards and 4 touchdowns. Thomas established Chiefs career records for sacks, safeties, fumble recoveries, and forced fumbles.
