New England Patriots Deal With Tampa Bay For TE Alex Smith

Alex Smith The New England Patriots have announced that they have acquired tight end Alex Smith from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for what is being called an undisclosed pick in the 2010 draft.
With the move, the Pats added to an already stacked position by acquiring Smith for an undisclosed 2010 draft pick.
The 6-foot-4, 258-pound Smith is considered a combination type tight end. New England expects him to be a factor as a blocker and in the passing game, his versatility should help the Patriots in both the running and passing games.

With the addition of Smith, the Patriots now have Benjamin Watson and David Thomas, as their top two returning from last season's roster. They signed veteran Chris Baker in free agency this offseason, inking him to a five-year deal.
Tyson DeVree and Brad Listorti are also on the roster.
Smith will be entering his fifth season as a pro. The Buccaneers drafted him out of Stanford in the 3rd round (71st overall) in the 2005 NFL Draft. Over his four seasons in Tampa Bay, Smith has compiled 129 receptions, more than 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns.
