The New York Jets and General manager Mike Tannenbaum were busy wheeling and dealing this weekend during the NFL Draft. New York may have only ended up with three picks, however, they worked really hard to get them.

This years draft began as most experts expected it to, with the Detroit Lions selecting former Georgia quarterback Matthew Staford. Then the Rams, Chiefs and Seahawks took Jason Smith, Tyson Jackson and Aaron Curry respectively.

With former USC quarterback Marc Sanchez still available at number five, that's when the Jets went to work.

New York worked out a deal with the Cleveland Browns and moved up to the fifth position to take Sanchez. For the right to take Sanchez at number five, the Jets sent their first two picks (17th and 52nd overall) to the Browns along with quarterback Brett Ratliff, safety Abram Elam, and
defensive end Kenyon Coleman.

With no picks in the second round, New York went to work on round three.

With the second round coming to a close, the Jets had their eye on running back Shonn Greene from Iowa. New York then moved up again by dealing their selections in Rounds 3 (76th overall), 4 (115th overall) and 7 (228th overall) to Detroit to get the former Hawkeye with the 65th overall pick.

In 2008, Greene was named Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He set a school-season record with 1,850 yards last season averaging 6.0 yards per carry while scoring 20 touchdowns on the ground.

With the Jets only other pick, New York selected Matt Slauson, guard from Nebraska. The Jets got Slauson in the sixth round with the 193rd overall pick. Slauson slip all the way to the sixth round because of health concerns, however, he was one of college's top rated offensive linemen in 2008.
