According to league sources, nine time pro-bowl safety John Lynch has agreed to terms with the New England Patriots.

The 36 year old Lynch was brought in to replace injured safety/linebacker Tank Williams. Williams was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a knee injury in last Thursday's preseason opener against the Ravens.

Patriots defensive coordinator, Dean Pees, said Williams had been playing well in camp.

"I hate to lose him. I hate to lose anybody, but it happens every year. So somebody else has just got to step in and take his place," said Pees.

Lynch spent 11 seasons in Tampa Bay before
his four pro-bowl years in Denver. Lynch asked to be released from Denver after the Broncos chose to reduce his role to a part time player in the upcoming season. After a closed door meeting on July 30th with coach Mike Shanahan, Lynch and the Broncos mutually parted ways.

After leaving Denver Lynch said, "I still have great passion for the game of football and I still feel like I can compete at a pro-bowl level." Lynch went on to say, "The situation is going to have to be right. I am no going to play for any team, in any situation."

Apparently the right situation arose in New England. The veteran safety reportedly signed a one year deal worth 1.5 million dollars.
