This coming October the United Football League (UFL) is set to kick-off their premier season. While their aspirations of actually competing with the popularity of the NFL are lofty, they are off to a good start with the announcement of their four franchise's head coaches.

The San Francisco-based franchise will be coached by former Vikings and Cardinals head coach Dennis Green. As a successful NFL head coach, Green brings to the table an NFL head coaching record of 113-94. That includes an 15-1, 1998 season with the Minnesota Vikings.

In Las Vegas, the 1997 NFL Coach of the Year Jim Fassel will take the reins. Fassel won an NFC Championship with the New York Giants in 2000. However, New York came up a little short in Super Bowl XXXV, losing to the Baltimore Ravens 34-7.

Former New Orleans Saints head man, Jim Haslett,
will be at the helm of the Orlando team. Haslett won the 2000 NFL Coach of the Year award after he lead the Saints to a 10-6 record and the first playoff victory in franchise history. Haslett also served as St, Louis Rams interim head coach for the final 12 games of the 2008 season.

Finally, the New York-based franchise will head-up by former San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell. Cottrell brings more than 20 years of NFL coaching experience to the start-up league. He has served as defensive coordinator with the Bills, Jets and Vikings as well as San Diego.

The UFL hopes to provide every fan with an affordable, accessible, exciting and entertaining game experience. As with any new venture, the UFL hopes to some day dominate the football market, but realistically if this new league can gain some interest, it could become an affiliate to the NFL in some capacity.
