Washington Redskins Just a short year after the Washington Redskins quietly cruised through 2008's free agency with no major signings, the Skins and owner Dan Snyder are making some noise in 2009.
Free agency started with a bang in Washington when the Redskins re-signed their own free agent, cornerback DeAngelo Hall to a six-year $54 million contract, making Hall one of the highest paid corners in the league. Then it exploded hours later when the Skins agreed to a 7-year, $100 million deal with defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.
Hall's deal includes $22.5 million in guarantees, that gives the 25-year-old cornerback his second big payday in as many years. A season ago, he was guaranteed around $24 million in contract he signed with Oakland. However, Hall was never really comfortable with the Raiders man-to-man
Hall was picked up by the Redskins and eventually played his way into the starting line-up and has now been rewarded with another huge contract.
As for Haynesworth, the 27-year old struck free agent gold with a deal that includes $41 million in guarantees. In fact, Haynesworth stands to make about $32 million in the next 13 months.
In just the first few hours of free agency, Haynesworth was bombarded with offers. According to league sources, he had at least six teams willing to give him more than $30 million in guarantees.
Haynesworth reeked havoc against opposing offenses a season ago when he led the Tennessee Titans with a career-high 8 and a half sacks. He also had 75 tackles, 22 quarterback pressures, seven tackles for a loss and forced a team-high four fumbles.
