Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner may not have signed a deal yet, but according to his agent, Mark Bartelstein, his client definitely wants to play in 2009. Warner said at the end of the season he would be contemplating retirement after a 11-year career and it appears he has made his decision.

Warner will likely be looking for a two-year deal. Bartelstein and Cards General Manager Rod Graves reportedly have made progress in their contract negotiations over the weekend. Bartelstein is believed to be asking for a deal that put Warner among the top five highest paid quarterbacks in the league, an average of $12 million to $16 million.

Arizona would like to stay
in about the $10 million range. However, both sides say they will continue talks and try to get a deal done before Warner can test the free-agent market this Friday.

Warner was tremendous in 2008, throwing for 4,583 yards, 30 touchdowns and completing 401 of his 598 pass attempts. He led the Cardinals to their first Super Bowl appearance only to lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Warner ranks behind only Steve Young, Peyton Manning and Tony Romo with a career passer rating of 93.8 and he is the league's second-most accurate quarterback in history.

The four-time Pro Bowler holds two league MVP's, a Super Bowl MVP for Super Bowl XXIV and this past season he won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
