Michael Crabtree According the NFL sources, former Texas Tech Red Raiders wind receiver Michael Crabtree has decided to put off surgery on his left foot until after he runs the 40 yard dash for NFL scouts on March 26th.
Crabtree has the beginning stages of a stress fracture in his left foot that will require a screw to be surgically inserted to stabilize that area of the foot. He will put off the surgery until after his pro timing day.
The two-time Biletnikoff Award winner for college's best receiver had been considered the top wide receiver in the 2009 draft.
NFL medical officials found the stress fracture in Crabtree's foot during tests on Friday at the scouting combine, and early reports said Crabtree
"I don't know where that report came from," Crabtree told the paper. "The stress fracture has been there for about a year and it's never caused me any pain. I can play with it the rest of my life. It won't stop me from running. I'm going to run."
The general consensus of NFL coaches is that the news of this injury should not hurt his draft status.
"It's not a career-ending injury or anything like that," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. "He's a good football player, and he's got plenty of time to get well."
Although this should not affect his draft-ability by no means, Crabtree is most certainly looking at surgery. That has to at raise some concerns to NFL teams looking at the possibility of drafting him.
