There was speculation after the regular season concluded that Charlie Weis would not be returning as coach head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish even though he is under contract through the 2015 season. When the University publicly announce that he would indeed be their head man in 2009, they hoped that the rumors would end.

However, in the mist of speculation about Weis' departure and talk of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden still lingering around the rumor mill, the Irish now hope all this can be put to bed.

Earlier this week in a press conference, Weis announced that he will take over the offensive coordinator duties from Michael Haywood. Haywood left the school in December to become head coach at Miami-Ohio.

"I'm going to be the offensive
coordinator. I'm obviously the head coach, but I'm going to be the offensive coordinator with Michael (Haywood) leaving to go on to Miami of Ohio," Weis said. "I thought the best chance for us to win this year would be to make me the offensive coordinator."

The coaching shake up does not end there.

Defensive coordinator Corwin Brown will share the title of defensive coordinator with Jon Tenuta while adding the title of associate head coach. With Weis calling plays on the offense, Brown will take over some of the other duties Weis previously handled.

This move probably has a lot to do with Weis considering that he may move to the press box during games.

"I can tell you that it's a subject that we've addressed as a staff," said Weis.

If Weis goes to the press box, Brown will be in charge on the sideline.
