Michael Vick According to Atlanta Falcons' General Manager Thomas Dimitroff, the team has begun to look into trading the rights to former quarterback Michael Vick. During a question and answer session on the Falcons' official team website Dimitroff spoke about Vick future, in regards to his football team.
"With regards to Michael Vick, we've decided to seek a trade of his contractual rights to another NFL club," said Dimitroff. "We took a number of steps in the 2008 season, including using our first pick to draft a quarterback. We feel a trade is the best move for the Falcons, and it's also in the best interest of Michael."
Vick is currently in federal prison on felony charges related to dogfighting and is scheduled to be released in July. However, he is expected to serve out the final few months of his sentence in a Virginia half-way-house.
There should be a number of NFL teams interested in the former
As for Vick's eligibility to return to the league, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello reiterated commissioner Roger Goodell's statement when he suspended Vick on Aug. 24, 2007, that he would review Vick's status when legal proceedings are done.
Dimitroff said that at this time Falcons have had no discussions with other teams, but they are confident that their would be interested parties.
While Vick is still in prison and will be there for the better part of the spring, teams are already gearing up for his release. Of course this depends on the actions of the commissioner. Nevertheless, Vick will be a hot commodity when he is released and could make an immediate impact for any team that is in need of more offensive firepower.
