The Kansas City Chiefs introduced their new head coach Todd Haley one day after agreeing to terms of a four-year, $12 million contract. Haley served as the Arizona Cardinals' offensive coordinator for the past two season.
The Chiefs couldn't be happier with their new head man.
"Todd is very bright," said Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. "He's extremely dedicated and very strong-willed. Those are the qualifications I was looking to partner with, and we really feel Todd is the right guy and is going to do a heck of a job here."
Strong-willed is right. Haley received some recent attention after his widely publicized argument with Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin during the NFC Championship game. He is known for his intense demeanor and various sideline clashes with star players. However the new Cheifs coach made light of his reputation in his opening remarks to the public.
"I've been reminded by a bunch of people," Haley said Friday at his introductory news conference, "to smile occasionally and not look too serious."
But, Haley was all smiles as he joins a team that went a franchise-worst 2-14 under coach Herm Edwards in 2008. Haley, who turns 42 this month, helped shape an offense that carried the Cardinals to an improbable NFC West title and nearly a Super Bowl victory over Pittsburgh.
With Haley, the Chiefs look to get back to a contender as the Chiefs haven't won a postseason game since an aging Joe Montana was their quarterback in the 1993 season.
