Detroit Lions The Detroit Lions have announced the hiring Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to be their next coach. According to the team's official website, Schwartz will be introduced at a news conference tomorrow in Detroit.
Schwartz just finished his eighth season as Titans defensive coordinator. He interviewed for a second time with the Lions on Monday.
"After an extensive search that included several highly qualified coaches, we are thrilled that Jim Schwartz will become our team's head coach," said Lions President Tom Lewand. "Jim's qualifications and vision will lead this organization on the field toward our goal of becoming a championship football team."

Before being hiring Schwartz Detroit also showed some interest in Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. However, they seem to have Schwartz in mind from the beginning.
Detroit interviewed Schwartz after the regular season and had to wait for the Titans to be eliminated from the playoffs to speak with him again. Tennessee lost to Baltimore this past Saturday.
Detroit has the no. 1 overall pick in the draft along with first and third round picks from the Dallas Cowboys. Schwartz has a long road in front of him in trying to turn this franchise around, but the draft is always a good start. Schwartz said that he likes a good challenge.
Well then, he'll love it in Detroit.
