Florida Gators The Florida Gators have had a bitter-sweet Thursday as they got good and bad new for their football program today. All-purpose star Percy Harvin has decided to skip his senior season with the Gators and enter the NFL Draft, while linebacker Brandon Spikes has decided to return to Florida for his final year.
As a dual threat, Harvin finished his career with the Gators with 32 touchdowns, 19 rushing and 13 receiving. He rushed for 1,852 yards and caught 133 passes for 1,929 yards. He holds the record as the only player in school history with 100 yards on the ground and through the air in the same game. Harvin did that against Vanderbilt in 2007.
"I will have a lot of great memories from my time at Florida, but the championships we won in 2006 and 2008 will be at the top of my list," said Harvin. "When it is all said and done, I wanted to win. I wanted to be a part of championship
Gators coach Urban Meyer called Harvin the most dynamic player he had ever coached.
"He has the best first step I've ever seen and his ability to plant his foot and go is unmatched," said Meyer. "Percy is a relentless competitor who wants to win. We wish him the best of luck and we look forward to having him around our program. He will always be a part of our Gator football family."
Meyer was pleased with the news that his All-American linebacker Brandon Spikes would be returning for his senior season. Spikes had four interceptions and led the Gators in tackles with 93.
"It was a tough decision for me and my family," said Spikes. "I just felt like it was the right choice to come back. I love the coaching staff and my teammates and I look forward to playing another year in front of the best fans in America."
