Brian Westbrook And Eagles Agree On New Contract

Eagles Brian Westbrook The Philadelphia Eagles and running back Brian Westbrook agreed to terms on a new contract Friday. The six year deal is reported to be valued at about 21 million dollars over the next three years. That number could grow to over 24 million if Westbrook remains in his pro-bowl form during that time. The final three years are said to be worth about 11 million dollars.
Westbrook was in the third year of a five year contract that he signed in 2005. The 28 year old running back said he wanted to restructure his contract and be compensated as on of the best running backs in the league. Apparently Eagles president Joe Banner agreed stating, "We are talking about a Hall of Fame caliber player." Banner went on to say, "This is a premier guy, a leader, a player. He wants to win so badly,
The Eagles running back was a third round pick form Villanova in the 2002 draft. The now two-time Pro-Bowler is second to only Ladainian Tomlinson in total yards from scrimmage since 2004. In his 2007 campaign, Westbrook led the NFL with over 2100 yards from scrimmage, an Eagles franchise record. He also lead all running backs with 90 receptions and became the first Eagle to rush for over 1000 yards in consecutive years since Duce Staley in 1998-99.
When asked about his all-purpose backs new deal coach Andy Reid said, "I have said many times, I believe Brain Westbrook is the best running back in football." Reid went on to say that the deal was great for both Brain and the Eagles and he credited all involved for getting the deal done.
Westbrook said he plans to finish his career with the Eagles.
