Tim Tebow Florida quarterback Tim Tebow thrilled more than 40,000 at the Gators' national championship celebration Sunday at the Swamp in Gainesville, FL, by announcing that he plans to remain at UF for his senior season.
After fans spent most of the rally chanting "One more year", the celebration was coming to a close and Tebow was walking off the stage, when he stopped and came back and said "Oh, yeah, one more thing, let's do it again. I'm coming back."
In 2007, Tebow became the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy, this season he passed for 2,746 yards and 30 touchdowns, leading the Gators to their third national title and second in three years. The junior signal caller also rushed for 673 yards and 12 touchdowns.
"I feel like I'm a role model," said Tebow. "A lot of times people start things and don't finish
In last week's BCS Title game against the Oklahoma Sooners, the south-paw was 18-of-30 for 231 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for another 109 yards in the 24-14 victory.
There was a lot of talk about Tebow forgoing his senior year and testing the NFL waters. When a junior seeks his advice on whether to enter the NFL draft, Gators coach Urban Meyer typically puts the player in touch with his top NFL contacts, including coaches Bill Belichick, Jack Del Rio and Jon Gruden.
"I love Tim. He's family," Meyer said. "At some point I'll get blasted for it, but I think he's one of the best players ever to put on a helmet. I don't know if he's the best quarterback. That's all relative and in people's eyes. I'm going to put him on the phone with people I trust."
Tebow said he never strongly considered leaving early.
