Sooners vs Gators Thursday night in Dolphin Stadium the Florida Gators face-off with the Oklahoma Sooners for the BCS National Championship in one of the most anticipated title games in history. Odds makers are calling Tim Tebow and the Gators favorites as they roll into South Florida. NCAA betting lines have Florida at -4.5 with the total in the contest sitting at 70.
Thursday night's match-up feathers two power-house offenses, one led by Florida's Tim Tebow and the other Oklahoma's Sam Bradford. Both have dominated college football for the past few months.
Oklahoma has won seven straight, including a 65-21 rout of then-ranked no. 2 Texas Tech. Over their last five games the Sooners have put up at least 61 points and outscored opponents 316-139. The Oklahoma offense has not scored less than 35 points in any game this season.
Sooners coach Bob Stoops will be seeking his second national title, the first coming when Oklahoma defeated Florida State in the 2001 Orange Bowl.
"I'm just really honored and excited
For Tebow and the Gators it has been just as dominating. Florida has won nine straight including a 31-20 win over then-ranked no. 1 Alabama. The Gators have averaged over 45 points per game over the course of the season and have come through a tough SEC schedule going 7-1 in the conference.
It is clear that both offenses have the potential to score at will. The key in this game will be if the either defense can hold off the others offense.
The Sooners have given up 24 points and 359 total yards per game, and no national championship team over the past three decades has surrendered those kind of numbers on defense. So expect the Florida offense to score and score often. The big question mark will be if the Sooners can do the same against a Florida defense that has let up only about 13 points per game.
The Gators should win in a high-scoring fire-fight. Take Florida and give the 4.5 points.
