The AFC East race is heating up as the New York Jets head out to the west coast to take on the Seattle Seahawks. New York will be looking to keep pace with the rest of the division and with the Dolphins, Patriots and the Jets all sitting at 9-5, the winner will likely need to win out.
Odds makers are calling New York a road favorite even though the Jets are 0-3 when playing on the west coast in 2008. Losses at Oakland, San Diego and San Francisco have Brett Favre and the Jets fighting for a division title and a spot in the postseason. NFL betting lines have New York -3.5 with the total in the game sitting at 42.
After dropping two straight and letting the rest of the division back in the race, the Jets pulled out a miracle win against Buffalo last week to keep pace.
With New York trailing by a field goal and the Bills trying to eat the clock with two minutes to go, Buffalo quarterback J.P. Losman rolled
out after a play-fake, Jets defensive back Abram Elam forced a fumble and Shaun Ellis returned it 11 yards for the winning touchdown.
"That play that Shaun makes and Abe makes, who knows?" Favre said. "At the end, we may look back and say that could be one of those plays that catapulted us into something great."
With Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren stepping down at the end of this season after 10 years in Seattle, he looks to thank the Seahawks fans with a win in his home finale on Sunday.
The 3-11 Seahawks will likely be without their Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck for the eighth time this season as he battle's back problems. Hasselback is expected to be the no. 3 quarterback, however the rest of the Seattle squad should be stepping it up for their departing coach.
This is a game New York should win, however the weather may be a huge factor. Nasty conditions are expected at game-time. This one is going to be a sloppy mess. Take the under 42 points in this one.
