Atlanta Falcons Sunday afternoon the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head to the Georgia Dome to take on the Falcons in a key NFC South match-up. Odds makers are calling Atlanta home favorites as they face-off with their division rival. NFL betting lines have the Falcons at -3 with the total sitting at 44.5.
With both of these teams coming off division losses from a week ago, another loss would be devastating to their playoff chances. In the wide-open NFC South, there is still enough time, however a win this week is key.
At 9-4, the Buccaneers are one game back of first-place Carolina, but can clinch at least a wild-card berth this week with a victory and a loss by either Dallas or Philadelphia.
Last week against the Panthers, the Tampa Bay defense was exposed for almost 300 yards on the ground by the Carolina rushing attack in
"Those guys are that good," said coach Jon Gruden, referring to Carolina running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. "Those guys are going to make guys miss. Both of them."
The Falcons sit at 8-5, one game back of the Bucs after their 29-25 loss to the Saints last week. With the team needing a touchdown, late in the fourth quarter, Falcons coach Mike Smith decided to punt, hoping his defense could force a three-and-out and get another chance on to score. New Orleans, however, never gave back the ball.
"We lost as a team," rookie linebacker Curtis Lofton said. "It wasn't one guy's fault or one coach's fault."
Look for the Buccaneers to play better against the run, even with Atlanta's good ground game. Tampa coach Jon Gruden will have his team ready for this huge game. Take the Bucs getting the 3 points.
